六月，在人們對北京八九民運三十周年進行回顧之際，香港社會因為反對修訂逃犯條例，燃起「反送中」的抗爭衝突，香港人對於中國政府治理所潛伏的不安感與日益緊縮的政治空間與言論自由的不滿情緒爆發，引發逾百萬人上街頭示威、至今未止的流血衝突，並造成數起自殺陳情事件。

論及當代中國攝影，莫毅是一個不可或缺的人物。莫毅最早受到注意的是他在1980年代末抓拍的一系列視角詭譎的街頭照片，描繪著中國快速都市化下生活的異化和壓迫。
